Abstract
[This is an excerpt.] “Where are you really from?” When I tell patients I am from Casper, Wyoming—where I have lived the majority of my life—it’s met with disbelief. The subtext: YOU can’t be from THERE. I didn’t used to think much of comments like this, but as I have continued to hear them, I find myself feeling tired—tired of explaining myself, tired of being treated differently than my colleagues, and tired of justifying myself.
