Abstract
[This is an excerpt.] By establishing wage boards, Oregon can improve wages and working conditions that foster a stable workforce, thriving communities, and a healthy economy. Presently, the majority of Oregon workers experience wages and benefits that are inadequate to support their families. Black and brown Oregonians are more likely to be shortchanged. Laws set up to protect workers’ right to join with others to bargain for a better deal are poorly enforced or outdated. This leaves workers exploited, honest employers disadvantaged, and the economy hampered by exorbitant levels of inequality. New approaches to addressing challenges faced by workers today are gaining traction, among them a concept called wage boards.
